Our Goodman Family Christmas Vacation Hike in the San Tan Mountains Regional Park was so fun! Zach Shaw took the older boys on a longer more adventurous hike so none of them got in our pictures. The weather was beautiful and perfect. This park is located very near Annette & Frank Bigelow's home.

Thanksgiving 2011 with Merrill & Bigney Families

Jeannie & Bill Goodman hosted the 2011 Thanksgiving dinner for her mother, Fern Ashcroft Merrill, and her brother, Tim and his wife, Sue and their daughter Alyssa Merrill. Visiting from Utah were Jeannie's sister Marilyn and her husband, Alex Bigney. They had with them their son, Alex and his wife, Melissa Bigney. Alex & Melissa also traveled with their three children, Alex, Noah and baby Bea. This was a Four-Generational Event!

I think this was the first Thanksgiving Jeannie and I had without any of our own children or grandchildren with us since 1965 when we were married. Here are the pictures I took of the festivities. The next day-Friday-we all went to Tim & Sue Merrill's home in Mesa to eat left-over Thanksgiving Dinner. It always tastes better the second day! I've written on each picture some details. 2010 Murtaugh High School Reunion!

I took over 100 pictures of our trip to Idaho for the Murtaugh High School Reunion. About 125 people attended the reunion covering the graduating years 1946-1960. Because I had so many picture the blog software shut me down yesterday so I had to finished posting the remaining pictures today. To view all the reunion pictures go to both October 3rd and 4th.

Brent and Bruce have both passed away. Frank lives in Connecticut. It was a total hoot to show this picture to the guys and their wives!

Murtaugh Idaho High School Reunion!

My wife Jeannie and I traveled from Gilbert, Arizona to Utah and picked up my sister Lynda Barney and her husband Larry in Spanish Fork and my sister Jackie Singleton in South Jordan. We had a grand time visiting the Milner Dam and the Snake River, Murtaugh, Twin Falls Cemetery and the Murtaugh High School Reunion activities. We were so bless to see Larry's wife, Myrna Goodman and her reunion siblings. Click on the each picture for better viewing.

Uncle Norris & Aunt Gen Goodman lived in a house to the left of this picture (no longer there). They had no indoor plumbing. The outhouse was located at the edge of the canyon wall and did not require digging a hole. I'll let your imagine run about how we felt using the facility as it "hung over the canyon". It was fun to play "Bombs Away! and other games. Oh, we also put to good use the Sears Catalog until there was not a page left.

Carma and I had a date for the high school "Sadie Hawkins Dance"--girl ask boy situation. Carma came and picked me up and presented me with a homemade corsage made of a carrot, lettus and celery! It was the best!

My magnificent Lionel Train was set up in the upstairs of the garage and took up two sheets of plywood so the table was 8'X8'. The garage did not have any electricity so I had to run an extension cord from the house to run the train! Jackie's Dance Studio and Fireplace were in the back on the main floor of the garage

The Idaho Spud Candy Bar was first sold in our Murtaugh Goodman Store in the 1950's. It is now a tradition to go to that same store and purchase this candy bar every trip we make to Idaho!

Cecil Adamson is my dad's Moyes 1st Cousin. His family --Great Uncle Will & Great Aunt Robina Moyes Adamson--lived in Murtaugh all the while we lived there.

The fruit tree to the left in the picture were part of my childhood! We had many wonderful Moyes Family Reunions in this front yard. We gathered every Christmas Eve for a wonderful visit from Santa Claus.

I took many pictures of the B.A.S.E Jumpers. Probably I took so many because this is something that I'd never ever do in my lifetime! At the same time I found it inspiring that one could take on such a daring task and live through it. My photos are viewed from our boat on the water and also from the middle of the bridge with my camera hanging over the edge---now that part WAS scary for me.

We enjoyed having Diana Jensen sitting with us on the boat. Her family lived just east of the LDS Church on US Highway 30. Their family joined the church in the 1950's helping to make my relationship to Diana more special. She was originally in my grade but because of brains was moved up one grade into my future sister-in-laws (Myrna McFarland) class.

Pillar Falls does not look so special during the lowest water level of the year (August). However it's big enough to stop all boat traffic. Canoes can be portaged around the falls and continue upstream to the famous Shoshone Falls which has no way to get around it without getting out of the canyon.

We are fortunate to have one picture of Jessie Frances Rice Overson. She is my Dad's 1st Cousin and a daughter of my Great-aunt Amy Maria Goodman Rice. Amy is the oldest sister to my Grandfather, William Nathaniel Goodman. Jessie and her husband, Victor lived in Phoenix, Arizona. My last time to see Jessie was in the Mesa Arizona Temple. She came up to me and introduced herself as my Dad's cousin!

I have not been able to find or make any contact with current members of the Overson family much to my disappointment. I am also searching to make contact with the other two original sisters in that generation. Mary Grace Goodman Browne and Fay Goodman Berry. These three sisters and their two brothers--George Francis Goodman and William Nathaniel Goodman make up the five children who grew to maturity to marry and have children. Maybe in the future a Tender Mercy will help us find living descendants of Amy, Grace and Fay!

2010 Goodman Family Reunion Photo Gallery!

The 2010 William Nathaniel & Annie Moyes Goodman Reunion is now in the journals and sacred memories of those who attended. What would I have done differently? Take more pictures! I wanted a shot of all the 20 Goodman 1st Cousins attending. They are Jackie, Bill, Lynda, Sandi, April, LaRae, Harold, Terri, Kelly, Judy, Joy, Tim, Susan, Lance, Vicki, Julie, Valie, Kevin, Sharla and Dan! Did I leave anyone out? What about Family Groups pictures for each tribe? If any of you took reunion pictures you may forward them to me in a jpeg format and I'll try to post them in this blog. Dan and Sharla are my 1st Cousins. We were so blessed to have Aunt Joyce attend our Goodman Reunion. Along with my sister, Jackie, she is the closest living blood link to my dad! I am so grateful for my Goodman heritage. The very name implies the daily performance of our lives. I do want to be a good man!

Tim is my 1st Cousin and the son of Aunt Bessie and Uncle Elvin. He and Jan served at President of the same (original) mission in which my father served in 1929-1931! Their counsel to us in preparing our children and grandchildren for missionary service was profound and timely! It would be great to have time in future reunions to have a current missionary report!

Aunt Joyce is the wife of my dad's youngest brother, Jay Goodman. She has attended all the Goodman Reunions since they began in 1953. Grandma Annie Goodman died in May of 1953 and the first reunion was held at my parent's farm home in Murtaugh, Idaho at Thanksgiving time. I can't believe how young she is! We're only 9 and one-half years apart in age!

We were so blessed to have Brother Clay Christiansen come to our Goodman Reunion and play two organ pieces for us! The week after the reunion we were watching the live Tabernacle Choir Broadcast on BYUTV. Our 7 year old grandson, Caleb Bigelow, came into the room and said, That's Clay Christiansen! He had been assigned to accompany the Tabernacle Choir August 1, 2010.

Aunt Joyce is the youngest sister of my dad, Everett Lee Goodman. She was only two years old when he went on his mission! My dad loved his baby sister and missed her very much during that mission. Because she is the only living sibling of the original 10 Goodman children she is held in high esteem by all her nieces and nephews!

Terri is my 1st Cousin and the only daughter of Aunt Ada and Uncle Quinn. She and her husband, Richard, live in American Fork, Utah and want to continue the Goodman Cousins gatherings.

Jamie is my 1st Cousin once-removed! We were so blessed to have her share the talent playing the piece written by my Great-grandfather William Gowans Moyes. The piece had a wonderful repeating melody line that was most pleasant to the musical senses.

Judy is my 1st Cousin and the daughter of Uncle Clyde and Aunt Verla. Her husband, Randy and two children also attended the reunion. Tim & Jan and their family added so much to the quality of our Goodman Reunion.

Curtis is the youngest (#8) of our children. Jenni graduated from BYU August 2010. Curtis graduated 2009. They will move to Dayton, Ohio for Curtis's new job September 2010.

We had about 40 friends and Goodman Relatives attend this production Saturday night. It was so fun to see this husband & wife in real life have so much fun on stage together. They did so well in their acting, dancing, speaking and singing!

Okay these are our grandchildren. All of them attended the 2010 Goodman Reunion. When we arrived at the Bountiful Temple the gates were closed for the State Pioneer Holiday. However, all the children were able to slip through the bars and began running around the temple grounds. We were finally able to get them under control long enough to take this picture. I was holding the camera between the bars and looking in. Is there some symbolism to this?

In conclusion I miss Aunt Bessie Blackburn. She was our living Goodman Family Genealogist and kept the family records up to date. Most of my Goodman records have little information after the mid 1980's.

First Goodman Store in Murtaugh!

Everett & Opal Goodman & 4 children returned to Idaho from Prescott, Arizona in January 1942. They lived in a home attached to the store in downtown Murtaugh. Sandra Dee was born while they lived here. Later they moved to the farm west of Murtaugh Lake where the the last three children, April, Rock and Lark were born.

90th Birthday Celebration!

Our California Adventure!

We were blessed going to the wedding and reception for our grandniece, Alyssa Calder, daughter of Dave & Connie Goodman Calder. Randy & Alyssa were married in the San Diego Temple and the reception was that evening.

I usually don't cry when I see my Goodman relatives but when I saw Myrna and her two sons, Scott & Steve--I cried! I was thinking of my brother Larry and how he was enjoying this day and looking down from Heaven on this grand day!

These two picture are similar but NOT the same!

Jeannie and I rode in April's van from Arizona with Lark, Sandi and Mike. We never ran out of things to talk about! Our 1st Cousin Gale & Barbara Tenney hosted my siblings during our time in the San Diego area.

I tried rotating this picture every which way but it only posted sideways. Sorry!

Saturday afternoon Cory really wanted us all to go to Nickel City near their home. The arcade takes nickels--all you want to feed them!

Cory is a good tennis player beating his 70 year old Grandpa Goodman twice!

Jeannie and Bill stayed two nights with our daughter, Karen, and Trent Halterman and their three children, Cory, Hailey and Sophie.

Murtaugh Moyes Family Reunion Circa 1940

This same picture was posted in an earlier blog. Since then I've heard from Larry Larson (Effie Moyes) who helped identify his two aunts! This is an opportunity for other Moyes relatives to help me identify our Great Aunts.

My goal is to have a name with each face!

This music came to me by way of my Moyes 2nd Cousins, Jay Moyes. He received it from his 1st Moyes Cousin, Larry Larson. I have estimated the date. Great-grandpa William Gowans Moyes had children born in three different locations. Annie, the oldest was born in Ogden. The next five children were born in Huntsville, Utah--where this piece was written. They then moved to Lyman, Wyoming where the last seven children were born. There is a window of 1887 and 1899 where this piece could have been produced in Huntsville before moving to Wyoming. Here is what Larry Larson writes April 27, 2010 about finding it:

"I got an interesting thing in the mail today. The oldest daughter of my Uncle Fred Larson, Linda, who lives in Blackfoot [Idaho] went to a DUP (Daughters of the Utah Pioneers) meeting the other day. A lady there gave a life history of her Grandfather, William G. Moyes. The name Moyes stuck with her and she finally remembered that my mom's maiden name was Moyes. She asked her if she knew Effie Moyes Larson, and the lady said she was her first cousin. Her name is Arta [Moyes]Hopson [daughter of Arthur LeGrande & Mona Clara Griffith Moyes. Arta is now 82 years old].

Anyway she had pictures of him holding his violin and some music he had written. She mailed me a photocopy of the music and I've asked her to send me any pictures she has. Anyway I'm attaching a scan of the music. It was obviously written for the violin, but it has his signature which is beautiful. I thought you might like to have a copy of this.
